Punch

Punch (👊) (weapon)

A Punch is a piercing strike or attack (usually) made with a tightly balled fist. In this context, it is a melee combat action, defined as "to beat or strike, especially with the fist."

Otherwise, the word 'punch' implies "to make a hole or indentation, in with, or as with, a punch (that 'punch' being the name of a tool or implement, or a physical action of the body)."

The Punch attack may be used by any capable creature or character with an arm or limb and that can make a fist, but cannot express its' full power unless trained.

👊 Attack:

A punch at maximum strength costs 8 mana to perform (even if the user is not a magic wielder in the common sense).

An attacker can choose to spend less mana and perform a reduced-power strike.

The physical attack known as the punch is a powerful energy-channeling natural attack, more impactful than a mundane punch in mortal lands. In the East it would be described as strike wielding the power of chi.

Therefore, when unopposed, a fighter trained to the level of 'Masterful' in unarmed combat deals at least 8 damage with a single accurate punching strike (or the result of a d8 if using dynamic rolls) by expending 8 mana. This damage bonus is added to the total of the base dice roll and the character's Muscle vital. The final result of the offensive essay is opposed by the targets defense roll. The different between the attacking and defending dice roll totals is the final damage value dealt to the target.

If not sufficiently trained, the combatant deals half damage (4 points), but still expends the full 8 mana (his or her 'best attempt', as it were). In this case the strike still counts as an advanced energy-channeling attack that the character must strive to achieve. It is not a simple thoughtless jab (which would be modeled purely by a base dice roll added to the characters' Muscle vital.

Again, if play involves a base dice (as most game types do), then when making such an attack, the damage value listed above is added to one's power roll result, and relevant vital statistic, in this case (Muscle), along with any other relevant bonuses. The damage value of 8 for punch is considered the baseline damage potential. The final damage dealt depends additionally upon the attackers' power roll and other circumstantial bonuses, offset by the success level of the targets attempt at defending itself. Thus an actual punch attack might result in more or less damage than the listed value of 8 for a full power version of the maneuver.
